The musician is returning to the local stage at the Magic Stick on Aug. 30. Here, she talks about the positive and dramatic changes motherhood brought about, her favorite song and singing in new way.

Jessica Hernandez is a Detroit musician with a long history in the area.

She took time off recently from the road when pregnant, but is now ready to dive into the next chapter of her career.

“I’m excited,” says Hernandez. “I’m just slowly dipping a toe, really.”

Her latest single is “Baby,” written with her husband and dedicated to her daughter, Stella.

“This was a collaboration between my husband and I. The solo on the song is my husband, and it was really great to collaborate together on this song for my daughter,” says Hernandez.

Hernandez will be performing at the Magic Stick on Aug. 30. She stopped by Ann Delisi’s Essential Music to talk about her show at the Magic Stick, how differently she looks at her life and her music, and performing at the Concert of Colors.
