It’s A Festivus Miracle! Hear Detroit Today’s 2017 Airing of Grievances
A panel of highly-qualified curmudgeons tackles everything from Kid Rock’s “Senate run,” to family bake-offs, to those pesky bike lanes on Cass Ave.
Saturday marks the coming of Festivus, the made-up holiday celebrated by the character Frank Costanza on Seinfeld. The holiday begins with the “Airing of Grievances.”
WDET listeners have a lot of problems with 2017 — and now we’re going to hear about it.
Detroit Today with Stephen Henderson holds its annual Festivus Airing of Grievances with a panel of highly-qualified curmudgeons, and takes calls and comments from listeners who have their own grievances with 2017.
Candice Fortman, the Marketing Director at WDET, airs her grievance with the bike lanes that emerged along Cass Avenue this year in Midtown Detroit.
“The problem is that they put these bike lanes in, so now you’ve got the bike lanes and you’ve got the parking in the middle of the street, and then you’ve got one lane of traffic, and buses and cars and snow, and it’s too much.”
This comment got many listeners fired up with their own bike-lane-related grievances.
Culture Shift producer Ryan Hooper also joins Detroit Today to air his grievance with the children judges of his family’s Thanksgiving bake-off.
“I don’t buy these kids gifts until they remember my name without prompting,” says Hooper. “And I don’t think that they should be allowed to vote.”
“[Their pallets] aren’t sophisticated enough. [They’re] attracted to sprinkles too easily.”
