DTE Prepares for High Winds

D-T-E Energy has a storm emergency plan in place to deal with expected high winds.

DTE Energy is preparing for possible power outages. The National Weather Service has sent out a high wind watch effective through the evening, with wind gusts reaching almost 60 miles per hour.

DTE Energy spokesperson Scott Simons says the utility has an in-depth storm emergency plan in place.

“What we do is we have a company meteorologist who tracks and monitors the weather whenever severe weather is headed our way,” Simons says. “And we are also in touch with other utilities along the path of that storm to determine exactly what kind of damage we can expect.”

Simons says the company alerts employees of impending severe weather at least 24 hours in advance, so they are ready and on the ground when the storm hits.

The peak high winds are expected to arrive between 2 pm and 8 pm.
