The Detroit Police Department has launched a new task force to address illegal drag racing. Officers are focusing mainly on organized, unsanctioned race events.
Sergeant Cassandra Louis says tickets will not only be given to the racers, but also to spectators.
“What people need to understand is that even if you are a patron and not physically racing, if your car is in the area while you are watching, your car can be towed and forfeited,” Louis says.
Louis says confiscated vehicles will cost $1,800 to reclaim. She says the force is targeting popular areas for drag racing.
