Teachers Union Challenges Emergency Manager

Detroit Teachers Union: District EM guilty of unfair labor practices

The Detroit Federation of Teachers says Gov. Rick Snyder is hurting education in the city by maintaining an emergency manager to oversee the district. The union is accusing the Detroit Public Schools and Emergency Manager Darnell Early of unfair labor practices.

Union President Steve Conn says the district should determine its own future.

“We need improvements. Instead all the governor and his emergency manager have done is provide us with a plan of destruction and dissolving of education in Detroit,” Conn says. “And that’s no basis for a city’s future.”

The union is scheduled to appear in front of the Michigan Employment Relations Commission next week.
