Downriver SWAT Team Training In Southgate

The Southgate Police Chief says downriver residents may hear some loud blasts tonight, but should not be alarmed. It’s the Downriver SWAT Team’s annual training exercise.

The squad will practice at the Christ the King Pennsylvania Campus until midnight. Police Chief Jeffery Smith says officer will not use live ammunition.

There may be some loud noise, some sounds from what we call flash bangs,” Smith says. “And they will be using some scenario material that may involve paint gun sounds so they may hear some popping sounds, other than that they should not hear any loud noise. There may be some canines that are possibly on the scene.”

Smith says it’s all part of an annual training exercise.
