Canada Votes: A Look at Monday’s Federal Election.

Liberals surge in campaign’s final days, but Tories, Harper could hang on.

Monday is Election Day in Canada, where voters are deciding who should lead the country’s 42nd Parliament. The Conservative Party, led by Prime Minister Stephen Harper, holds the majority of seats in the House of Commons. But if the latest campaign polls are right, Canadians may be ready for a change. The Liberal Party, which last led the nation in 2006, now holds just 36 seats, after finishing a distant third in the 2011 federal election. But the Liberals are poised for a comeback this year, and could win enough seats to form a new coalition government. University of Windsor political science professor Lydia Miljan tells WDET’s Pat Batcheller the party has found new life under its young leader, Justin Trudeau.
