What To Do If You Still Haven’t Received Your Absentee Ballot

The election is just a week away, but residents planning to vote absentee who haven’t received their ballot yet still have options.

Record numbers of voters are expected to vote absentee in the presidential election in light of the coronavirus pandemic. But with a week until election day, what happens if someone who plans to vote absentee still hasn’t received their ballot in the mail?

The Michigan Secretary of State’s office says these residents still have options.

Jake Rollow, a spokesperson for the Secretary of State, says these voters should go into their clerk’s office or a satellite office and request a ballot in person.

“You can do one of two things: you can either take it home with you and vote it, sign the envelope and drop it off. Or you can fill it out right there, sign the envelope, and submit it,” says Rollow.

If a voter has already received their absentee ballot but has not yet returned it, the Secretary of State’s office does not recommend that they drop it in the mail because it might not arrive before the deadline of 8 p.m. on November 3rd. Instead, Rollow says absentee voters should bring their ballot to their local clerk’s office or an official drop box in their community. Find your clerk’s office or drop box location »
