“Bird Box” Sequel Arrives: Detroit Author Josh Malerman Talks “Malorie”
The sequel takes place ten years after we last saw Tom, Olivia, and Malorie. Fans of the book and Netflix hit film are excited.
In 2014, a novel about mysterious entities whose sudden appearance on Earth took the lives of everyone who caught a glimpse of it became a modest, but strong favorite with horror fans.
But when Netflix opted to make “Bird Box” into a film starring one of the world’s most famous actresses, the story took on a life of its own, with the novel reaching the New York Times bestsellers list. The film starring Sandra Bullock was a huge hit for Netflix, and the internet went wild with Bird Box memes, hashtags and fan theories about the origin of the deadly monsters of the book.
Needless to say, the book propelled Ferndale author Josh Malerman’s career to fantastic new heights.
Malerman, who also fronts the Detroit indie rock band ‘The High Strung,’ was at the center of Bird Box fans’ frenzy to know what would eventually become of Malorie, Tom, and Olivia in their terrifying new world.
The wait ends this week with the release of “Malorie,” which takes place ten years after the events of Bird Box.
