Wayne State University is declaring the 2020 presidential election a campus holiday.
Officials say it is in response to achieving a high student voting rate during the 2018 midterm elections.
Making election day a campus holiday “was brought to my attention by the student senate and something that they felt strongly about.” – Roy Wilson, Wayne State University
Wayne State President M. Roy Wilson says the student senate worked hard to make voting easier on campus.
“This was brought to my attention by the student senate and something that was one of their projects that they felt strongly about, so we decided as an administration to make this happen,” said Wilson.
A new on campus polling location was added as part of an initiative to improve voting access.
