Motown Musician Accelerator Artist Charity Performs Acoustic Live Set In Studio A
Charity is part of the 2019 Motown Musician Accelerator program – a new initiative that elevates the careers of emerging Detroit talent.
Her vibrant orange hair and curls peeking under a beanie hat instantly grab your attention, but when Detroit-based singer-songwriter Charity starts to sing and pluck at guitar strings, ears become captivated by her soothing tone and illustrative storytelling.
“The vocal and the lyrics really grab you,” says Suai Kee, director of the Motown Musician Accelerator. “They kind of punch you in the throat and make you listen.”
Black Magic
Inspired by India Arie’s 2002 Motown debut, “Voyage to India,” Charity describes her music as “alternative R&B, grounded in neo-soul.” The stories told through her songs are reflective ballads and upbeat anthems that unfold the millennial experience, elements of love and empowerment.
Hailing from the far westside, Charity released the ‘Yellow’ EP in 2015 and partnered with Footlocker Women for the debut of her 2019 single, ‘More Cake,’ a critical look at the concept of marriage instilled in young girls from a young age. While nourishing her career as part of the Motown Musician Accelerator’s 2019 class, she debuted her single, “Mr. Time” earlier this month and is currently working on her sophomore EP, entitled “Tender Headed.”
