Marianne Williamson: “It is a mistake to try to win this election based on anger against Trump”

You know her memorable one liners from Democratic debates, maybe you’re one of millions who Googled her after seeing her on the debate stage. Marianne Williamson joins Stephen Henderson on Detroit Today.

Her message is spiritually-driven, and it’s very different than the mainstream political rhetoric we are all used to these days. Marianne Williamson joins Detroit Today host Stephen Henderson to talk about how she sees her role in the 2020 race and her work as an author, activist and non-denominational faith leader.

“When you are talking about what is right, what is ethical…that belongs in public and collective conversation as much as it belongs in our private ones,” says Williamson in response to a question about why she is trying to transition from a role as a spiritual leader to a political one. Although Williamson will not be on the debate stage tomorrow night, she does have some insights on the problematic issues of our current political landscape. “Our conventional political establishment is stuck in a mindset that is very 20th Century…whereas in the 21st Century we have a much more holistic view of life,” she says.

On the topic of keeping religious and spiritual beliefs outside of the political landscape, Williamson explains that, as she sees it, “the founders, by instituting that separation, were not seeking to suppress the moral conversation– if anything they were seeking to protect and liberate it.”
