In the era of President Trump and social media, civility in politics seems to be at a low point in modern history.
Detroit Today host Stephen Henderson and Detroit News Editorial Page Editor Nolan Finley are hoping to bring some civility back through their efforts with the Detroit Civility Project.
They hosted sessions during the 2019 Mackinac Policy Conference featuring participants who were teamed up with someone they don’t have a lot in common with – at least on the surface.
Monica Rodriguez is the Coordinator of the Detroit Scholarship Fund at the Detroit Regional Chamber. She was teamed up with former Republican state Rep. John Walsh, who is now president of the Downtown Detroit Partnership.
Matt Friedman is with the Metro Detroit PR firm Tanner Friedman.
Rodriguez and Friedman talk about the conversations they had through the civility project and the value of those discussions.
