Finley, Henderson Trade Friendly Jabs About Detroit News Endorsement
Detroit’s two major editorial page editors discuss Detroit News’ endorsement of Libertarian Gary Johnson.
In its 143-year history, the Detroit News has never endorsed a candidate for president who wasn’t a Republican — that is, until this week.
The paper’s editorial page says voters’ best choice for the White House is Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson.
The News’ editorial writers have admitted the timing of the endorsement could have been better. It came just days after Johnson responded to a question on MSNBC about Aleppo by asking, “What is Aleppo?” And it came just hours after Johnson failed to identify a single world leader that he admires, again on MSNBC.
“We looked at the three candidates we would consider; Clinton, Trump and Johnson… and he came the closest to reflecting our values in this race,” Finley tells Henderson. “We understood for a lot of people who think like us… [are] very uncomfortable with Trump.”
