Regina Weiss (D-Oak Park) to discuss their respective parties’ chances this election season.

  • Filing deadline marks the next phase of the 2024 campaign season
  • Voter turnout for the presidential election
  • The legislative agenda for Michigan Republicans and Democrats

In Michigan, the battle for control of the House is underway. Schuette says he is confident with his party’s chances to reclaim the house.

“The House is up for grabs. The 2022 election was a tough year for the Republicans, it was still an incredibly close election at the state House level,” he said. “I think we’re shaping up to have a much more competitive general election environment in 2024.”

Schuette also says that Trump’s supporters show up when he is on the ballot which he believes will fair well for other Michigan Republican candidates on the ballot.

On the other side of the aisle, Weiss says that her party’s slim majority is making it difficult for Democratic lawmakers to pass legislation.

“I am immensely proud and humbled by the amount of work that this legislature has been able to get done. We know that having a very narrow majority, a one-vote majority, has made it challenging to get every single piece of legislation across the finish line that we may have wanted to,” Weiss said.

She said with many members having history of outperforming the top of the ticket, the Democrats have a chance to expand their majority.
