Detroit Evening Report: Shri Thanedar questions validity of campaign signatures submitted by Adam Hollier

Detroit Congressman Shri Thanedar has filed paperwork to challenge Adam Hollier’s appearance on the August primary ballot.
Both Thanedar and Hollier are running for the Democratic nomination to represent Michigan’s 13th Congressional District.
In a news release sent out Tuesday, Thanedar’s campaign alleged there was a “significant deficiency in valid signatures collected from in-district signers and other discrepancies” in Hollier’s ballot petitions.
The law requires that all Michigan congressional campaigns submit 1,000 valid signatures to qualify for the ballot. In the news release, Thanedar’s campaign stated that of the approximate 1,555 signatures submitted by Hollier, there were 782 that do not meet state requirements — including 90 duplicates signatures, 228 signatures from voters outside the district, 338 with the wrong address and 20 alleged forgeries.
“We believe that Adam Hollier’s petitions do not meet the minimum standards required of Michigan’s congressional candidates,” the news release said. “As responsible stewards of the democratic process, we cannot allow such discrepancies to go unaddressed and have asked the Wayne County Clerk’s office to investigate.”
In addition to the Wayne County Clerk’s office, officials from the Board of State Canvassers will review the challenges and make a ruling on the matter.
The primary election will take place on Aug. 6.
