Tigers fans will celebrate start to season at Grand Circus Park

As part of the celebration, the Downtown Detroit Partnership is hosting its annual Detroit Tigers Opening Day Tailgate on April 5.

The Detroit Tigers swept the Chicago White Sox in their three game season opener this weekend. And now, the city is ready to kick off the season at home.

As part of the celebration, the Downtown Detroit Partnership is hosting its annual Detroit Tigers Opening Day Tailgate at Grand Circus Park on April 5. The event is free to the public and runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Soula Burns, director of corporate partnerships for the DDP, says Opening Day is an unofficial holiday in the city.

“You mentioned playing hooky. I think you know, people take the day off, kids don’t go to school,” Burns said. “It’s just a feel-good day.”

The tailgate is the official party for the Tigers, Bally Sports Detroit and MillerCoors, Burns says. There’s going to be a beer tent, food trucks, different games and Tigers surprise guests.

“If you can’t get a ticket to the game, come to the tailgate, you’re gonna be able to watch it courtesy of Bally Sports Detroit, and you’re gonna get to cheer with all of your friends,” Burns said.
