Detroit City FC Attracts More Fans, Spreads the Wealth
“Le Rouge” averaged more than 5,000 spectators per game, shares revenue with investors.
Detroit City Football Club averaged more than 5,000 fans per game during its first season at Keyworth Stadium in Hamtramck. That’s more people than some minor league baseball teams attract. DCFC Co-owner Alex Wright tells WDET’s Pat Batcheller attendance rose 50 percent in 2016, one of many successes on and off the pitch. Wright says “Le Rouge” started sending revenue-sharing checks to nearly 500 investors this week. The team is retaining head coach Ben Pirrmann for 2017. City won four games in National Premier Soccer League play, lost four, and played four draws. Click on the audio player to hear the conversation.
