Democratic incumbent Haley Stevens will once again represent Michigan’s 11th Congressional District. She defeated her opponent, Republican Mark Ambrose, by 22 percentage points.

Stevens spoke to supporters at the Fifth Avenue bar in Royal Oak Tuesday night, shortly after the Associated Press called her as the winner.

“I’m just gonna tell y’all it feels good to be a Democrat from Oakland County. And the Stevens train is roaring back to DC yet again,” she told the crowd.

Stevens was first elected to Michigan’s 11th District in 2018, flipping it from red to blue. The newly redrawn district covers large parts of Oakland County, running from Ferndale to Pontiac.

During her victory speech, Stevens said that while she’s ready to return to Washington, she hopes she’s “not working with so many crazies.” Afterward, she told WDET that she was talking about candidates who aren’t ready to do serious work.

“I’m not there chasing media hits, or chasing the cycle of muddy media fame elections,” she said. “It’s about rolling up your sleeves and doing the work of actual people within your communities.”

Stevens pointed out that she helped to author part of the CHIPS and Science Act — legislation that invests in domestic semiconductor manufacturing and research and development. She says moving forward, she wants to try to rein in oil companies because they continue to make big profits while consumers pay high prices at the pump.
