Welcome to the Detroit Evening Report, a daily round-up of news that city residents need to know.

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has signed the final piece of a $76 billion state budget into law.

Whitmer largely backed the bipartisan plan she signed off on earlier today, but vetoed money that Republicans had funneled toward anti-abortion causes. Lawmakers met for weeks to develop the budget proposal and announced a deal in late June.

But they couldn’t agree on how to lower taxes.

Among other items, the new budget allocates $6 billion toward state and local roads, bridges and other transportation projects. The budget also puts about $2.6 billion toward public pension systems.
