Detroit Evening Report, March 30, 2022: Whitmer signs $4.7 billion infrastructure plan

 

Welcome to the Detroit Evening Report, a daily round-up of news that city residents need to know.

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signed a $4.7 billion infrastructure spending plan in Grand Rapids this afternoon to fix Michigan roads. $4 billion will be used to improve drinking water infrastructure, and create and maintain parks, bridges and dams. The spending plan includes more than $2 billion to be invested in clean drinking water, wastewater and other water infrastructure projects. After the hit to the economy because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the government hopes improving infrastructure will boost tourism and recreation, and move the economy forward.
