Detroit’s historic Temple Bar is indefinitely closed after a portion of the building reportedly collapsed on Friday morning.

A bar employee told Metro Times that a portion of the exterior wall and roof collapsed around 10 a.m. “for no apparent reason,” sending a significant amount of debris onto the sidewalk and damaging the overhang above the business’s front door.

Orange construction barrels and caution tape have been set up around the building’s perimeter and no injuries have been reported.

The popular Cass Avenue dive bar — founded in 1927 — was scheduled to host a variety of events to coincide with Detroit’s Movement Electronic Music Festival. It’s unclear for how long the establishment will remain closed as a result of the collapse.

Temple Bar management could not be immediately reached for comment.
