Detroit Evening Report: 31st annual Concert of Colors happening now in Detroit

The annual Concert of Colors started this week and culminates in a weekend full of performances from local, national and international artists.

Events have been held at the Charles H Wright Museum, the Carr Center, the Michigan Science Center and the University of Michigan Detroit Center. The festival’s many stages were activated for a variety of musical performances including blues, electronica, hip hop, Native American, African, gospel-infused funk and more.

Performances and cultural conversations continue throughout the weekend. headlined by the Don Was Allstar Revue that will pay tribute to Detroit jazz legends Sunday evening.

Two of WDET’s Tiny Desk Detroit winners, Nadim Azzam and Apropos, will perform at the festival — Azzam on Saturday inside the Detroit Film Theatre at 1 p.m. and Apropos on Sunday at noon on the DIA outdoor stage.

Concert of Colors is free and held indoors and outdoors in the area around the Detroit Institute of Arts and other area venues. Food trucks and vendors will also be on hand.
