3D Dance Academy in Detroit’s Live6 neighborhood is a nonprofit that has offered fun and affordable summer entertainment for local kids for 15 years. Their annual summer program takes place at Detroit’s Marygrove Conservancy featuring 10 weeks of activities including training in several different dance styles, Friday field trips, tutoring in math and reading, and free breakfast and lunch. This year’s program kicks off on Monday, June 19 and goes through Aug. 25.

Sharon Freed-Moreland is the Founder and CEO of 3D Dance Academy. She grew up in Detroit, studying dance in college, then traveling the world as a choreographer and dancer.

Freed-Moreland joined CultureShift to share how she discovered her calling for dance, working with Aretha Franklin and what to expect from this year’s summer program.

“It is my objective and my motive to keep dance alive and make sure children experience something that can possibly change your life like it did mine.” — Sharon Freed-Moreland, 3D Dance Academy
