Multi-hyphenate poet jessica Care moore is launching a three-part series entitled “Vibe Sessions” this Saturday at the Carr Center in Midtown.

The Detroit-based poet has been very active, just recently finishing a series in New York City that included a performance at the legendary Apollo Theater. When asked what she feels people connect to the most at her shows, moore responded, “Authenticity. People like honesty. They like when you are telling your truth. Liars on stage are not interesting.” Moore has curated an environment to reach the interesting truth through her series “The Vibe Sessions.”

The performance will feature different artists during every session. Saturday’s show will see performances by the band Black Hand Side that features rising star Apropos, live art from Sabrina Nelson and a DJ set by Gulley. Moore will host a conversation with the artists to know more about them and their truth.

“I want everyone to know these magical people that I know, and it should be shared,” says moore. “I curate by thinking, ‘Who is going to be able to mesmerize this audience, entertain, but also have a good energy attached to it — and have a love for the audience?’ I love my audience!”

Moore aims to create a space at the Carr Center where the audience is part of the performance during the night.

In addition to “Vibe Sessions,” moore is releasing her sixth book entitled, “No Dead Goats,” which features a new poem by the same name. One of her aspirations is to win a Grammy now that the award show has added spoken word poetry as a category.

While moore has built a considerable career and worldwide recognition for decades, the artist believes she is just finding her voice.

“I’m just working on my legacy and trying to have fun. I’m building my empire, says moore. “It’s funny because I’m such an adult but I’m really whimsical, and I feel like I’m just getting started in finding my voice, still tuning it and sharpening the iron and getting better.”
