This year, CultureShift is introducing a new monthly segment called “Sam’s Jams Live,” where WDET Creative Producer and longtime Detroit musician Sam Beaubien sits down with other Detroit musicians to talk about their craft and play some tunes.

In this first installment, we’re joined by Dames Brown, a three-piece powerhouse vocal group who have been a WDET favorite for years. Their tight harmonies, disco influence and bubbly energy are so infectious they started a dance party in our studio. They chatted with Sam Beaubien and Amanda LeClaire about how they met, working with Amp Fiddler and their upcoming musical production.

“We fell in love with each other musically, right on the spot. It was just a natural click, we just vibed and we were like, ‘Maybe we got something!’” — Athena Johnson, Dames Brown vocalist

You can see Dames Brown perform live with special guests at the Hawk Community Center in Farmington Hills on Saturday, Feb. 18 at 8 p.m.
