Detroit Evening Report: Dearborn gunman shot and killed inside police station

A 33-year-old man was fatally shot inside a Dearborn police station Sunday after pointing a gun at an officer at the front desk.

The Detroit News reports the incident took place at around 3:30 pm at the station at 16099 Michigan Avenue. According to a statement, an officer released multiple rounds that struck the man. He was then taken to a nearby hospital by Dearborn Fire Rescue where he was pronounced dead.
No officers were injured.
Michigan State Police say they are investigating the incident and have found the man had a history of mental illness.
The motive of the suspect is unclear at this point. There is a history of mental illness. Investigation continues and pends ME reports, further evaluation of evidence. A investigators report will be submitted to the prosecutor once the investigation is complete. 6/

“We are in the preliminary stages of this investigation and more details will be released as they are confirmed,” MSP said in a statement.
