How is political money being spent during Michigan’s election season?
Much of the dark money funding campaigns in state races are being spent by local political parties, says MLive reporter Simon Schuster.
Money has a big influence in our politics, especially after the U.S. Supreme Court ruling on Citizens United. Campaign funding and spending has really ramped up over the last decade — and it’s having an impact on our current election cycle.
We’re seeing a significant amount of spending on the race for governor and the 7th Congressional District.
“It’s important to note that the 7th district between Elissa Slotkin and Tom Barrett is not only the most expensive election in Michigan, it’s one of the most expensive congressional races nationally. It’s certainly the most expensive U.S. House race in Michigan’s history.” — Simon Schuster, MLive senior politics reporter.
