Mackinac Policy Conference: Rep. Lawrence reflects on retirement and political career

“It’s amazing diversity, and I always felt that when I walked in a room and I spoke I was representing America,” says Rep. Lawrence of the economic, racial and social diversity of her district.

Rep. Brenda Lawrence has worked in politics for decades and has served the 14th House District for Michigan since 2015. She says she worked in one of the most diverse districts in the country, and that she felt like she was truly representing America.

Lawrence also says she plans to teach and to pass on lessons she’s learned from her years in office.

Rep. Brenda Lawrence (D-Southfield) said earlier this year she will not be seeking reelection. Lawrence says she’s had an amazing time serving Michiganders, but that she’s ready to embrace different experiences.
