How a Democrat unseated a Republican in rural Kent County, MI

Voters embraced a Democrat in rural Kent County because the party so infrequently talks with voters in that area, says Glanville of her campaign.

Carol Glanville recently won in rural Kent County, Michigan, flipping the 74th House District seat, which has been held by a Republican for a long time. Glanville unseated an incumbent who made inflammatory statements against Jews and rape victims.

But the representative-elect says she won because voters believe she will be responsive to their needs — not because of her opponent’s blunders. Glanville will hold the seat until she runs again in the August primary and November general election.

“I know community interests quite well and I just went out with that message to talk to voters where they’re at.” — Carol Glanville, rep-elect for Michigan’s 74th House District

Carole Glanville is the representative elect for Michigan’s 74th House District seat. Glanville says she was able to persuade voters because she listened to them and is active in the community.

“I know community interests quite well and I just went out with that message to talk to voters where they’re at,” she says.
