About Tom Semaan: I have been a resident of New Baltimore since 1963. I was raised above my parents’ small business – Art & Mary’s market in downtown N.B. where I learned the value of hard work. I have served the City for over 40 years in various capacities, from 1981-2010 served the New Baltimore Fire Dept. in 2010 awarded Fireman of the year. 1987-1991 elected to a four-year term as Councilman, during that time I also served as head of our finance committee and Mayor Pro-Tem. I married the love of my life Sally DeWulf in 1982, We have three adult children Sara, Peter, and Nicholas.
Why are you running for New Baltimore Mayor? I want to lead our community by example.I want to bring back a level of decency and respect to City government.I want to work with the people of New Baltimore and City Council alike to show that people with differing beliefs and backgrounds can put aside their differences and come together for the greater good of our community.
What is the most important issue facing New Baltimore? Development and infrastructure remain high priority issues.
How would you address that issue? Making certain we’re attracting the right development in our residential and Industrial blocks, whereby we are increasing our tax base and shifting the larger burden off homeowners.
What actions/decisions by the current mayoral administration or city council have you disagreed with? The current administration has lacked in transparency and openness while addressing the needs and expenditures of our city.
