Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan Wins Mayoral Primary
Duggan will likely face Anthony Adams in the November general election.
Mayor Mike Duggan and Anthony Adams will face off in the November general election for Detroit mayor.
With all precincts reporting, Duggan won Tuesday’s primary with 72.4% of the vote. Adams was second with 9.99% of the vote and Tom Joe Barrow was third with 6.03% of the vote.
In total, nine candidates challenged Duggan for a spot on the November ballot.

Adams, a former Detroit deputy mayor, says he would focus on neighborhood stabilization if elected mayor. “We’ve got to keep people in their homes. The right blight removal strategy is to make sure the next house doesn’t go vacant.” He supported Proposal P, and other policies that would put money into proactive programs. “The charter is an aspirational document… the city should have an affordable housing policy … the city should have an affordable water policy.”
Duggan, who is serving his second term, says if elected, his priorities for his third term are “improving public safety and fighting intergenerational poverty.”
Detroiters will cast their ballot for mayor on Nov. 2.
