Neighborhood Service Organization Receives Federal Certification, $4 Million for Mental Health Services

The funding will help NSO, which has become a hub for non-emergent mental and behavioral health for patients throughout metro Detroit, expand on the work it’s already doing in the community.

The community health group Neighborhood Service Organization, also known as NSO, has received a $4 million award to fund behavioral and mental health services in metro Detroit.

“We were already, you know, moving in that direction with adding primary care. We have a chief medical officer of primary care, who has been seeing patients since early last year. And we have been putting together infrastructure and internal processes and procedures to really become a more integrated organization,”  says Linda Little, the CEO and President of NSO.

“Because we do offer so many different types of programs, we want one person to come into our door, and be able to access all the NSO can provide to support them to live their best life.” — Linda Little, CEO and President of NSO

The group has been a part of the community since 1955 as a bridge in the health care community. And with this award, NSO now has the federal distinction as a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic.

Little says NSO has become a hub for non-emergent mental and behavioral health for patients throughout metro Detroit. “Well, immediately, it allows us the flexibility and provides the resources to hire the necessary staff. We can hire qualified case managers to do this work and reduce the staffing ratio from case manager to client serve, so that they can really have an impact on helping to provide the support that’s needed.”
