FDR Turkey Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving might look very different this year, but at least one thing remains the same: WDET is here to fulfill all of your radio-listening needs.

Check out WDET’s special programming, meant to both educate and entertain you throughout your Thanksgiving holiday.

THANKSGIVING

9 a.m. – 10 a.m. and 7 p.m to 8 p.m.: Peace Talks Radio
What really happened at the first Thanksgiving?  This morning at 9am, we’ll hear a Peace Talks Radio special about the relationship between the Wampanoag  confederacy and the British Settlers, and how the first Thanksgiving was  about the signing of a truce that lasted 40 years.

11 a.m. – noon: Pulse Thanksgiving Special
Thanksgiving usually means we’re going big — way over the top. Twice the size bird we could possibly eat; more side dishes than the table can hold; and, of course, so much pie. But so many things will be different this year because of the pandemic. Our celebrations will be smaller, and our travel plans limited. We’ll try to be grateful for what we have, while feeling the pain of all we have lost. On this special episode of The Pulse, we explore the traditions of Thanksgiving through a scientific lens, and discuss how the coronavirus will impact the holiday. We hear stories about the neuroscience of gratitude — and how it can help us through grief, how the pandemic has impacted our food systems, and what people are doing to stabilize the supply chain. We also make a visit to a multi-generational cranberry farm, and hear about a tough decision over whether to cross state lines — not for turkey, but for love.

Noon – 2 p.m.: Between Takes Special
WDET’s Creative Producer and the creator of WDET’s Between Takes series delves into the behind -the- scenes world of Detroit musicians on a two hour special today at Noon featuring stories from iconic artists and the music of record Producer McKinely Jackson.

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 27

9 a.m. – noon: Third Coast Best of the Best
Third Coast’s yearly audio storytelling special is back! Featuring the winners of the 20th annual Third Coast Competition in Chicago, these stories were selected from more than 700 entries by 20 judges from across the world and represent the — well — the Best of the Best of what the field of narrative audio storytelling has to offer.

Noon – 2 p.m.: CultureShift
Tune in at 1 p.m. when we will be drawing the winning raffle ticket for our one-of-a-kind electric guitar, “Salt of Detroit.”
