President Trump continues to make unfounded claims about voter fraud. Yesterday, he made the baseless claim illegal votes had been collected in Michigan’s general election.
“I support our President 1,000%. And when the comments are made I just feel like sometimes it’s due to lack of experience in being on the [election] administration side of it,” says Macomb Township Clerk Kristi Pozzi, a Republican and the president of the Macomb County Clerks Association.

There are checks and balances in place in Michigan, Pozzi says, to keep fraud out of the absentee ballot counting process.
“The verification of signatures, the audits that we run, the qualified voter list that has to be audited and mirror the ballot numbers that we have in house,” explains Pozi, “And when we’re tabulating, we have to account for every single ballot and every single number that is issued.”
Pozzi says there was no fraud in Macomb Township, but that she can’t speak for other Michigan clerks. In the last decade, there have only been five documented cases of voter fraud in the state.
