Tribute from Charles Ezra Ferrell

“It’s all coded in his radio name, Ed Love. Love and sacrifice are two sides of the same coin. You cannot have LOVE without sacrifice.

Ask anyone who has been tremendously successful. It’s all about giving; giving of yourself; giving to the community you serve.

Ed loves music, particularly that genre of original music born of African roots in America called “jazz.” Detroit is a spiritual vortex of resilience, immense creativity and resistance, which has produced some of the world’s greatest musicians. That’s why Ed planted his roots here in this fertile soil and his tree has blossomed and produced wonderful fruit for over 60 years.

Ed loves the soul of Detroit, it’s music, it’s people. WCHD and WJZZ were revolutionary centers of sound that impacted so many people over many years. Their demise left a huge hole in our cultural universe. WDET and Ed Love continued the tradition and for this we are grateful. Names like Ed Love and Rosetta Hines should always be remembered.

We extend our whole-hearted appreciation for Ed Love’s immense gifts of music and musical history to our culture.
