This Macomb County Republican Mayor Supports Joe Biden

Sterling Heights Mayor Michael Taylor voted for President Donald Trump in 2016. He regrets it, and now plans to vote for Vice President Joe Bide in 2020.

Republicans have largely remained loyal to President Donald Trump since his inauguration three years ago.

“This is a question of putting our country over party.”  — Sterling Heights Mayor Michael Taylor

But one Republican here in Metro Detroit has publicly backed Democrat Joe Biden for president.

And he’s from Macomb County — a place that is largely responsible for flipping Michigan red for Trump in 2016.

Listen: Sterling Heights Mayor Michael Taylor talks about his plan to vote for a Democrat in 2020 despite being a lifelong Republican

Michael Taylor is the mayor of Sterling Heights in Macomb County. He’s a lifelong Republican, and voted for Donald Trump in 2016.

“I’m not here to defend my vote in 2016. I regret it.” — Sterling Heights Mayor Michael Taylor

Taylor says his lack of support for Trump has been bubbling up for a couple of years. “I couldn’t do it anymore,” he says.

“This is a question of putting our country over party,” Taylor continues. “We need to get this country back on the right track. We need real leadership from the White House. And given the crisis we’re in right now the lack of leadership is on full display.”
