Despite It All We Never Learn: A Look Inside A Humanitarian Crisis
Local photojournalist Kenny Karpov commemorates his time spent in the Mediterranean Sea with an exhibition and book.
Photographer Kenny Karpov has spent the last few years documenting the plight of migrants in the Mediterranean Sea and in Europe as they seek refuge from life-threatening situations in their home countries. He has a new exhibition showcasing his photographs opening tonight at M Contemporary Art in Ferndale. It will be on view until December 14th. Kenny Karpov joins Detroit Today with guest host Jake Neher to talk about his new book, Despite it All We Never Learn, as well as his upcoming exhibition.
Karpov says his new book is a culmination of his more than four years spent overseas, highlighting over 200 stories of refugees’ backgrounds, onward journey and their dreams for the future. His hope is that this book will provide people with a human perspective of the refugee crisis, something he thinks is often ignored. Kapov says of the humanitarian crisis abroad, “We can’t turn away on this. We need to take action, this needs to change.”
