Fouts Wins Fourth Term as Warren Mayor; More Election Results
Voters in Metro Detroit made their choices Tuesday. Three cities reject marihuana ordinances.
Warren voters re-elected Mayor Jim Fouts on Nov. 5, giving him a fourth term in office. Unofficial results from the Macomb County Clerk’s office show Fouts defeated challenger Kelly Colegio by almost 3,600 votes. Absentee voters put Fouts over the top. He won the AV ballots by a margin of almost two-to-one. Absentee votes made up the majority of all votes cast in Warren.
In other local elections, Highland Park Mayor Hubert Yopp defeated challenger Glenda McDonald by 28 votes, according to the Wayne County Clerk’s office.
Grosse Pointe Mayor Christopher Boettcher lost to Sheila Tomkowiak.
Eastpointe City Council member Monique Owens will become the city’s first black mayor. She defeated four challengers.
Voters in Allen Park, Keego Harbor, and Walled Lake rejected proposals to allow marijuana sales in their cities, while Lincoln Park residents voted to allow such sales.
In the Dearborn Public Schools, voters said no to a $240 million dollar bond for building improvements, better security, and other infrastructure needs. School bond issues were approved in the Van Buren, Huron Valley, Novi, Lakeview, and Richmond districts. Melvindale-North Allen Park’s bond proposal failed.
