Baltimore’s Peabody Conservatory Student Band Talk Inspiration, Perform Live
WDET’s Sam Beaubien sat down with students from the Peabody Conservatory Tuned-In program.
The Johns Hopkins Peabody Conservatory’s Tuned-In program offers full scholarships to musically-talented Baltimore youth, focusing on giving the students a modern music education allowing them to play and compose their own music while preparing them for todays music industry.
“We’re thinking about composition, specifically, to allow the students to actually say what they want to say” says music educator Daniel Trahey. “The kids told me everything they were doing was prescribed to them, that they were looking for something different.”
The Conservatory also trains students in music education, an example of one employable skill.
The students are currently touring the country, visiting cities with strong musical roots and studying what makes these places so unique. WDET’s Sam Beaubien sat down with students from the Peabody Conservatory’s Tuned-In program to discuss their experiences with the ensemble, what inspires them to play music and a live in-studio performance.
