Correction appended 11:42 pm, July 2, 2019: The original version of this story erroneously named the racer featured in the headline and article. Her name is Stephanie Bradley. 101.9 WDET regrets the error.

After Stephanie Bradley finishes a race, she’s often greeted by the tracks regular fans. But it’s one particular groups of fans that come out to see her specifically: Young girls.

They say, “When I get bigger, I want to race too,” Bradley says. “And I hope they do. That would be great, to see more women out here.”

This summer, CultureShift Field Trips is taking you on the road to some of the most unique locations and events in the region. Every Saturday night from May until August at the Flat Rock Speedway, fans gather downriver for a night of competitive racing. Out of the dozens of drivers that participate in this, only two are women.

“I’ve been the only woman in a long time to run with these guys consecutively for awhile,” says Bradley. “It must be crazy to be with them.”

It’s why the Speedway’s announcer dubbed her “One Crazy Lady.”
