Here are Photos of Dossin Great Lakes Museum $4.9 Million Outdoor Makeover

The museum on Belle Isle will reimagine its outdoor space to include features like access by kayak and from the Iron Belle Trail.

The Dossin Great Lakes Museum on Belle Isle is getting a $4.9 million makeover.

The outdoor redesign follows a 2013 renovation project that reimagined the museum’s interior. Now it’s changing the spaces outside to incorporate the beauty of Belle Isle and the Detroit River.

“With everything that’s happening on Belle Isle we’re really excited about making the exterior of the museum as beautiful as the inside,” says Elana Rugh, Executive Director and CEO of the Detroit Historical Society, which operates the museum.

Rue says the renovation at the Dossin will change not only how the museum looks but how visitors use it. Renovations to the exterior of the Dossin Great Lakes Museum are expected to run through 2021. The museum will be open during much of the work.
