Olympia Development of Michigan is detailing what’s next for the District Detroit.

Officials say a new building is coming to Woodward Avenue, on the plot of land located between Little Caesars Arena and the Mike Ilitch School of Business.  The development will include medical, office, and retail space.

Among the facility’s occupants will be the Detroit Medical Center.  The health system plans to house its new Sports Medicine Institute on the grounds.

“This new facility when completed,” explains Medical Center CEO Dr. Anthony Tedeschi, “will meet the needs of athletes of all ages who are seeking advanced performance assessments, injury prevention, and other specialized orthopedic treatments.”

Tedeschi says the Institute will be equipped with several high-tech options that will allow athletes to break down their performance, including biomechanical video analysis.

Project officials say the development will include about 100,000 square-feet of office space — a primary tenant of which will be the Warner Norcross + Judd law firm.

“We’ve been in Southfield since 2004,” says Linda Paullin-Hebden, an executive partner at the law firm. “But we knew Detroit was a place we needed to be, both for our clients and our attorneys.  Detroit has once again become the place where it’s at.”

Olympia Development of Michigan says it’s also working to expand its operation, as it anticipates further growth in the District Detroit.  Officials say the company is in the midst of hiring about two dozen new employees.
