Looking for a dose of Broadway in your backyard?

WDET’s Ryan Patrick Hooper speaks with Broadway in Detroit’s Alan Lichtenstein about the last two shows coming to the Fisher Theatre for the 2019 spring season.

First up — a musical based on the movie “Waitress.”

“It’s been a huge success. It’s still running on Broadway,” says Lichtenstein. “(‘Waitress’) deals with some serious subject matter but, you know, there has to be some kind of dramatic arc involved. This is all original music based on this story.”

The final show of the 2019 season is “Anastasia,” which is also based on a movie.

“It’s one of those ‘My Fair Lady’ type musicals that I think everyone will enjoy,” Lichtenstein says.
