Jocelyn Benson has been busy since she was sworn in as Michigan’s Secretary of State. She moved swiftly to settle a lawsuit that challenges the state’s legislative districts — which the lawsuit claims were illegally gerrymandered — by requiring that a handful of state House seats be redrawn.
That’s unfolding against the backdrop of the successful referendum to end partisan gerrymandering, which will affect the district redrawing that’s scheduled to happen in 2021.
It can get confusing if you’re not paying close attention.
But for Benson, who has been pushing for changes to redistricting for nearly a decade now, it’s fair to say there’s little that’s more important than getting this right.
She joins Detroit Today with Stephen Henderson to talk about the lawsuit and her new role as secretary of state.
