Detroit Post-Rock Band Ancient Language Set To Release Newest Album
Bandleader Chris Jarvis discusses the formation of the group and the band’s upcoming album.
Detroit post-rock ensemble Ancient Language began in 2011 as a solo project of composer Christopher Jarvis. The cinematic sound of the group is no accident- Jarvis is also a filmmaker and is passionate about the art of scoring for the screen.
Ancient Language’s latest release, Hygge, is out this Friday.
To celebrate the release of their newest album, the band will be performing at El Club in Detroit on Saturday, June 2nd.
WDET’s Amanda LeClaire spoke with Jarvis about expanding the band from a solo project, his love of soundtracks, and recording the band’s new material.
Jarvis says Ancient Language began when he was making beats and electronic music on his own.
“In 2015, my brother joined me and that’s when (Ancient Language) started to take off and it wasn’t just a side project,” he says.
Ancient Language now has six members contributing to the band’s sound.
“I kind of got bored of playing by myself,” says Jarvis. “It’s been so awesome having other people to play with.”
