Michigan School Districts Offered Free Security
Fifteen districts may get an officer on site.
A private security company in Flint is offering to provide free protection to 15 Michigan school districts.
The DM Burr Group has launched Operation S.O.S. The S.O.S stands for “Secure Our Schools.” The company is offering to provide either an armed or unarmed officer to 15 school districts.
CEO John Allen said they will work with districts to determine where officers will be stationed and what they will do.
“[The officer] would make sure the building is secure, the people that are coming in and out have been checked properly,” Allen said. “In the case of an emergency we would be there to act and take care of the situation and also work with local law enforcement as well.”
Allen said after the recent school shooting in Florida, the company wanted to do what it could to help.
“It’s our way to be able to give back,” he said. “It’s our way to be able to say we’re here. We care. We want to help with the solution.”
The Kearsley School District in Genessee County and the Brandon School District in Oakland County will be the first to participate in Operation S.O.S.
