Brenda Jones was re-elected as Detroit City Council President Tuesday.
The Council needed multiple ballots to break a three-way tie between Jones and Council members Mary Sheffield and Andre Spivey.
“I would just like to take the opportunity to thank my colleagues for supporting me again for a second term. My colleagues have spoken. The citizens have also spoken. And I will continue to service the City of Detroit to the best of my ability,” Jones says.
City Council took a weighted vote to eliminate one candidate, taking Sheffield out the race for president
Jones beat Andre Spivey by a final vote of five to four.
Sheffield was selected as President Pro-Tem.
