Tuesday is Election Day in Michigan. There are a number of important and high-profile races in and around Detroit.

Michigan’s top election official joins Detroit Today with Stephen Henderson about preparations for Tuesday’s elections statewide.

Michigan Secretary of State Ruth Johnson also discusses the role elections workers play in our democracy.

“We have elections in 75 counties tomorrow across Michigan,” says Johnson.

“Unfortunately, a lot of people don’t show up for local elections,” she continues. “It really can make a big difference in your everyday lives.”

“There’s ballot proposals, there’s local officials you’re voting on. It’s so important to take the time to know what’s on the ballot ahead of time and take the time to make sure you vote.”

Johnson recommends voters visit michigan.gov/vote to find out what’s going to be on their ballot before they go to the polls, which will help keep lines moving more quickly and reduce wait times.
