Jocelyn Benson announced that she’s running for Michigan’s Secretary of State in 2018.

The former Dean of Wayne State University’s Law School is calling for a maximum 30-minute wait at Secretary of State offices in Michigan.

Benson says if she’s elected she would improve technology and training in offices across the state to increase efficiency.

“I believe that no matter where you live in the state of Michigan, no one, anywhere, should have to wait in line more than 30 minutes to renew their license, get a new vehicle license, or vote. And so that’s my standard, that’s my expectation and I’m going to work every day to meet that,” Benson says.

Benson says if elected she would work to improve government transparency and accountability and ensure election security.

Benson lost to current Secretary of State Ruth Johnson in 2010.
